Press Release
Swindon Town Supporters Club are delighted to announce that following several months of negotiations, we have been able to acquire an electronic and interactive scoreboard for the County Ground.
We hope that the scoreboard will be operational for Saturday's match against Walsall, but are reliant on its "clean" installation today, to ensure that it will be fully operational during that game.
The new scoreboard will bring enhanced communications and news service to fans during matches and also give a long overdue and unique opportunity for businesses to advertise their products and services in a very different way. Individual supporters too, will also have the opportunity to get their own messages, for special occasions broadcast on the screen.
The Supporters Club are also, a match sponsor at the Walsall game.
Roger Bunce Chairman of the Supporters Club comments
"Many supporters have mentioned to us their desire to see a scoreboard back at the County Ground and we have worked hard to achieve this. This has only been possible because the support we receive for each of our fund raising initiatives, enabling us to bring our donations to the Football Club this season to around £20000 and we are now closing in on £100000 of support, since our formation.
We would like to put on record our thanks to each one of our members and also every other fan that have supported those fund raising initiatives. We are extremely grateful to everyone who participate, particularly in the "SAS Away Travel" sponsored half time draw and also the scratch card lottery. Without each of those personal and individual contributions, the provision of the scoreboard and our other wide- ranging support of the Football Club, would not be possible.
The Supporters Club have a consistent record over a number of seasons, of delivering ever increasing financial help to the Football Club and we will certainly be aiming even higher next season.
Our membership costs just £5 for adults and this entitles members to a number of discounts. For each member we have enrolled this season we will have turned their small membership fee, into financial support for the Football Club amounting to the equivalent of approximately £70 for each member"
UPDATE
FROM THE SUPPORTERS CLUB, 7 APRIL 2005
Unfortunately, because a high wind during
the whole of the day exceeding the safe operating level for the
crane, we were frustrated in our attempts to lift the new
scoreboard into place, as planned on Thursday.
The postponement of the installation now means it will not be possible to re-try, ahead of the Bristol City match, but the Supporters Club remain committed to bringing this facility to fans and achieving the installation as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, may we apologise to everyone who may have been looking forward to seeing it in operation this weekend."
Nigel
Bennett - Supporters Club spokeperson said:
"It has been a frustrating day as we
sat around all day waiting for the wind to drop to a safe level
-. Which of course never came. The crane operatives did all they
could and were as helpful as possible, given the circumstances,
but we were defeated by something over which, we all had no
control. "
